Of course, you have questions and thankfully we have answers! Here is a list of the most common questions we get.

Applied behavior analysis is a science wherein behavior and its modification is studied. This science has developed evidence – based philosophies and principles that are implemented within therapy spaces to teach desired skills and reduce undesired behaviors.

ABA is proven to be successful in teaching both simple and complex skills and reducing maladaptive/undesired behaviors when individualized to any person/being. When used appropriately and correctly, the ABA provider should complete skill and behavior assessments then propose the best plan for desired outcomes in collaboration with other support professionals (e.g., psychologist/psychiatrist, primary care provider, speech pathologist, occupational therapist, IEP team, religious leaders, etc.).

ABA therapy is not for one person, group, and/or diagnosis. The science and its principles can be used across many teachings and forms of treatment. For example, ABA principles have been used in the treatment of persons with Alzheimer’s and Dementia and its teachings have extended to workplace/ employee performance analysis. ABA principles have even been used to train emotional support and rescue animals. As long as the end goal is observable and measurable, then ABA can be implemented.

Great Strides offers several services to its clients; however, the best service delivery option will be determined based on client/family input and assessment. Service options include 1) Direct Professional Services (1:1 and program modification, parent education), 2) Classroom/School Readiness Intensive Programs and Transition Support (preparation and transition, IEP), 3) Consultation with School Districts and Personnel, 4) Student Analyst and Practitioner Development, and 5) ABA Provider Consultations.

GSBS provides child and adolescent services to ages 2 through 18 years old. Student Analysts and Certified Behavior Analysts must meet the age requirement set by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) to qualify for services.

GSBS is authorized to serve members of the following insurance providers: Cigna, BCBS of TN, Humana, Aetna, and UHC.

It is an honor that you are seeking services from GSBS. The first step would be to complete the intake/onboarding packet and submit to admin@greatstridesbs.com with required supporting documents (e.g., diagnosis completed by a doctor, referral for ABA services from your primary physician, copy of insurance card – front and back (not for private pay), and copy of parent/guardian ID). A GSBS professional will reach out to the main contact to schedule an initial meeting and gather informed consent.

Unfortunately, there is no definite length of time from initiation of intake to start of services. However, to avoid unnecessary wait times, GSBS professionals will ensure timely communication, assessment scheduling, and submission of authorization of services once the intake process starts.

Payment for services depends on whether you desire for services to be covered by your insurance provider or not. If authorized by your insurance provider, services may be covered at a portion of the cost; however, each insurance provider requires their members to pay copay per visit and/or an out-of-pocket individual deductible. At the start of services, an eligibility of benefits check is completed. This check allows for us to know exactly how much each member would need to pay to GSBS for rendered services.

The Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) recommends that parent/guardian(s) are involved in their loved ones’ therapy in the form of parent/caregiver education sessions. These sessions cover explanations of current treatment goals and progress, training on how to implement in the home and community setting, and ways to maintain productivity after services fade. However, GSBS requires a minimum of two (2) hours of education sessions each treatment month. Other than parent education sessions, GSBS encourages all Parents/Guardians to be as involved as they would like! Involvement may look like frequent “check-ins” with the Program Supervisor – BCBA and direct care staff, observing your loved ones’ therapy session, and/or attending social events hosted by GSBS for our learners. GSBS is committed to the success of our learners and we know that great strides aren’t made alone!
